Supporting memory function

Souvenaid is a medical nutrition drink that contains a combination of nutrients called Fortasyn Connect, which supports memory function in Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) and early stages of Alzheimer’s disease. According to Nutricia, a company that is part of the Danone group that specialises in therapeutic food and clinical nutrition, its product is the first medical nutrition product clinically-proven in double-blinded, randomised controlled trials to improve memory in those with early Alzheimer’s disease.

Fostasyn Connect includes DHA, EPA, Uridine Monophosphate (UMP) and Choline. DHA and EPA can be found in fresh and canned tuna, UMP can be found in tomatoes and choline can be found in skimmed milk. The product is also rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, and high in Vitamins B6, B12 and C. It is lactose- and gluten-free.

A bottle of 125ml is taken once daily in the early stages of the disease (with or without food) and the company shared that studies have shown that those with Alzheimer’s disease see positive results after drinking it for a minimum of three months.

Souvenaid comes in two flavours – vanilla and cappuccino, and is being sold in a cluster of four bottles at a cost of S$19.80 (with GST). It can be bought at retail pharmacies such as at NUH, Sengkang Hospital and Mt Alvernia. It is also available at Guardian – Mt Elizabeth, Mt Elizabeth Novena hospital, Gleneagles Hospital, Takashimaya, JEM, Westgate, Bedok Mall, Paragon, Velocity, IMM and Holland Village, and selected NTUC FairPrice stores – Bukit Timah, Toa Payoh, Vivocity, Jurong Point and Bishan.
