Mindfulness for carers

The 85-page “Mindfulness For Carers: How to manage the demands of caregiving while finding a place for yourself” by Dr Cheryl Rezek, a consultant clinical psychologist, is easy to read. She addresses the issues surrounding caregiving – the stress, fatigue and burnout that can happen to both professional and voluntary caregivers.

Dr Rezek also provides an introduction to mindfulness and the benefits of mindfulness, and explains how simple mindfulness practices and psychological concepts can help manage the day-to-day demands of caring, help you gain a greater sense of control, and maintain a more positive and balanced outlook.

The book includes easy-to-use mindfulness practices such as body focus, and mindful walking and showering. It also has accompanying audio tracks to support you through the practices. As Dr Rezek shared: “No one can take care of you except yourself”. The book is available at our National Library.
